The preparer of a document receives a notification message when an approver is added to the approval flow.

If you added an approver to the approval flow, you can later remove that approver. However, only authorized users can remove approvers included in the default approval flow.

Your Ariba Buyer system administrator decides which users are authorized to add additional approvers.

Ariba Buyer determines the default approval flow for a document based on the approval rules defined for that document type. However, users can modify the approval flow during the approval process.

To ensure a smooth business process, Ariba Buyer enforces certain restrictions on who can add approvers:

• If you are the preparer, you can add an approver or watcher at the start of the approval flow or in parallel to the approval flow.
• If you are an approver or a watcher, you can add new approvers before or after existing approvers, or in parallel to them. You cannot add approvers in front of an approver who has already acted on the request or in front of a watcher.
• If you are authorized with appropriate administrative permissions, you can add approvers even if you are not included in the approval flow.
