Split accounting for a line item

Split accounting is used to spread the cost of an item across multiple accounting groups. For example, you might split the price of a new database server among the three departments who will use the server. You can split charges by quantity, percent, or amount, depending on how Ariba Buyer is configured.

  • If you split accounting by percentage, a percent symbol (%) appears in the Split Amount field to indicate you must enter a percent value.
  • If you split accounting by amount, the appropriate currency symbol is displayed in the Split Amount field (for example $, £, or €) to indicate you must enter a monetary value.
  • You can split accounting for a line item that has a quantity of 1. If you split by quantity, Ariba Buyer displays the split amount as a decimal value, and the sum of the splits will equal 1.

As you enter split amounts, Ariba Buyer validates the data to ensure that you have allocated the full amount. If the unallocated amount does not equal zero, you have not accounted for the full amount.
