If your contract is for a construction project, you might use milestones
similar to these to ensure that a certain percentage of the total contract
amount is paid only upon successful completion of each milestone:

countertops, hard floor coverings, baseboards and built-in appliances.
Trim - Finish interior doors, window trims, fireplaces / mantles,
plumbing fixtures, light switches / electrical outlets and fixtures,
heating/cooling units, heating registers, thermostats, central
vacuum face plates, intercom, telephone / cable TV outlets.

Due June 29, 2004:
Install carpeting, cleanup (exterior and interior), finish driveway,
landscaping, miscellaneous repairs. |
When creating the contract, you designate a verifier to confirm that
each milestone is successfully complete. Once the verifier confirms
completion, the supplier is paid.
