Value Added Tax (VAT) reclamation is a critical component of expense management. VAT, which is a general consumption tax assessed on the value added to goods and services at each stage in the production and distribution chain, is assessed on many business expenses in those countries that impose VAT. In many cases, some or all of the VAT amount paid can be reclaimed. A VAT rate, which is a percentage of the cost of the goods or services, is defined by expense type. For example, expenses related to conference fees might have a VAT rate of 21% and airfare might have rate of 0%. Each country sets VAT rates for expenses incurred in its country. The Ariba Travel & Expense VAT feature captures the VAT amount. Your tax manager can then determine the portion that can be reclaimed. |
