Tips   View and manage commodity codes

Available operations in the Commodity Codes task depend on your Ariba Spend Management application. Commodity codes are shared across Ariba Spend Management applications and are nonpartitioned.

Commodity codes can be hierarchical if the commodity code domain supports hierarchies. Some domains may also support using wildcards. You cannot use wildcards when searching for commodity codes in Ariba Buyer Administrator, however.

Deleting a commodity code is not the same as disabling it. Deleting a commodity code permanently removes it and all commodity codes below it from the commodity code tree. However, when you disable a commodity code and all those below it in the hierarchy, you can enable the branch again later if you choose.

For more information on commodity codes, see the Ariba Buyer Data Load Guide.

Access to create and edit commodity codes depends on the permissions assigned to you and whether you are in view or edit mode. In the default configuration, the permissions required to view, create, edit, delete, and export commodity codes are defined in the workspace configuration files. Permissions can be customized. For more information, see the Ariba Buyer Administrator Customization Guide.

Screen details

To display the Commodity Codes screen, click Commodity Codes under Commodity Code Manager in the Navigation Panel.

Display commodity codes. Initially, no commodity codes are listed.

  • To display all commodity codes in all commodity code domains in the database, click List All.
  • To display specific commodity codes, select a commodity code domain from the Domain pull-down menu, enter all or part of a commodity code ID or name, and then click Search or press the Enter key. You can also specify whether the commodity code and all branches below it are enabled (Yes), disabled (No), or either enabled or disabled (Either) in the commodity code hierarchy. Search fields are case-insensitive.
  • To add or remove search filters, click Add/Remove Search Filters. Then select or deselect the check boxes for the search filters.
  • If available, click the Table Options icon, located in the row above the column headers, to display commands that control the display of data in the table. For example, you can hide or show columns of data; group data; or export data to Excel.
  • To sort search results, click a column header. Click the header again to change the sort order, as indicated by the arrow.

View commodity code details:

  • To view additional details for a commodity code, such as its parent in the hierarchy or any mappings between this commodity code and a commodity code in another domain, click a commodity code ID.

Take other actions:

  • To create a new commodity code in the database, click Create New.
  • To edit a commodity code in the database, click its check box and then click Edit. When you edit a commodity code, you can also do the following:
    • Create or delete a mapping between the commodity code you are working with and a commodity code in another domain.
    • Specify the parent of the commodity code in the hierarchy.
    • Enable or disable (hide) the commodity code in the hierarchy. Disabling a commodity code disables it and all commodity codes below it in the hierarchy.
    • Enable or disable multiple commodity codes at the same time by selecting multiple commodity codes to edit.
  • To delete one or more commodity codes in the database so that they and all commodity codes below them in the hierarchy are permanently removed from the commodity code tree, click their check boxes and then click Delete. You are asked to confirm your deletions.
  • To export commodity codes to .csv files, click Export. Commodity codes are exported using predefined integration events which do not depend on your login partition or the search filters you specified.
