Tips   Edit commodity codes

You can edit one commodity code at a time to modify the domain mappings between it and commodity codes in other domains.

You can edit one or more commodity codes at a time to enable or disable (hide) them. Disabling a commodity code disables it and all commodity codes below it in the hierarchy. Disabling a commodity code is not the same as deleting it. You disable a commodity code to prune the hierarchy by disabling a branch of the commodity code tree. Pruning the hierarchy allows you to load a public standard commodity code tree and prune it so that only the branches you need are enabled. You can enable hidden branches again later if you choose.

If you disable a branch of the commodity code hierarchy and later import catalogs or other subscriptions that contain disabled commodity codes, an error occurs.

Enabling a commodity code enables it and any disabled commodity codes above it in the tree, to ensure that an enabled commodity code is not isolated from the hierarchy.

When you click Save, your changes are saved to the database. Objects (such as users, roles, and commodity codes) with the Adapter Source set to ManuallyMaintained are maintained within your Ariba Spend Management application and not updated by integration events. Objects with the Adapter Source not set to ManuallyMaintained can be overwritten or deleted by integration events. For more information, see About the adapter source.

If you click Save and an out-of-date error is displayed, the object you are editing was deleted or edited by another user. For more information, see About out-of-date objects

Screen details

To display the Commodity Codes - Edit Commodity Code screen, select a commodity code on the Commodity Codes screen and then click Edit.

Depending on the permissions assigned to you, and whether you are in view or edit mode, you may only view details, or you may both view and edit details.

  1. Modify general information. You cannot modify the adapter source.
    • For a single commodity code, modify the parent of the commodity code in the hierarchy by selecting a commodity code from the Parent pull-down menu. You can also modify the commodity code name. You cannot select a disabled (hidden) commodity code as a parent, and you cannot select a parent in a different domain. A commodity code cannot be its own parent.
    • To enable one or more commodity codes so that they and any disabled commodity codes above them are visible in the hierarchy, click Yes. To disable one or more commodity codes so that they and all commodity codes below them are hidden in the hierarchy, click No.
  2. Modify commodity code map entries for the commodity code you are working with.
    • To create a new domain mapping from this commodity code to a commodity code in a different domain, click Create New.
    • To delete one or more domain mappings, click their check boxes and then click Delete.
  3. If available, click the Table Options icon, located in the row above the column headers, to display commands that control the display of data in the table. For example, you can hide or show columns of data; group data; or export data to Excel.
  4. Click Save to save your changes, or Cancel to return to the previous screen without saving your changes.
    • A log message is created in the database audit log when a commodity code is edited.
