Tips   About the adapter source

The value of the parameter System.Admin.AutoSetAdapter
SourceAfterManualModification in the config/Parameters.table file must be set to true if you want the ability in your application's Administrator user interface to set the adapter source for an object to ManuallyMaintained. When this parameter is set to true, the adapter source for an object is also automatically set to ManuallyMaintained when any data field in an object that is maintained in your Ariba Spend Management application is manually modified in your Administrator user interface.

For more information on setting the adapter source for an object and the source of truth for an object's data fields, see the Ariba Buyer Data Load Guide.

When you create, copy, edit, or delete objects in your application's Administrator user interface, your changes are saved to the database. Depending on the following settings, your changes may be overwritten or deleted the next time you run integration events to reload this data:

  • the adapter source (or data source) for the objects that you create or modify.

The adapter source can be either manually maintained within your Ariba Spend Management application (ManuallyMaintained) or maintained in an external system, such as a .csv file or an underlying database system such as an ERP system or a Human Resource Management System (HRMS).

  • in Ariba Buyer, the value of the parameter System.Messaging.IgnoreSourceOfTruth in the config/Parameters.table file.

This parameter value can be either true or false.

  • in Ariba Buyer, the "source of truth" for individual data fields in the object, set by the sourceOfTruth field property.

This property can be set to either ORMS (for Ariba Buyer) or ERP (for an external system).

If the adapter source for the object is set to ManuallyMaintained, that object and all its data fields are maintained within your Ariba Spend Management application. None of that object's data fields are overwritten or deleted when an integration event is run, regardless of the other settings above.

If the adapter source for the object is not set to ManuallyMaintained, the following cases apply in Ariba Buyer:

  • If the value of the parameter System.Messaging.IgnoreSourceOfTruth is false, then data fields whose "source of truth" is set to ORMS are maintained within Ariba Buyer and are not overwritten or deleted by integration events. Data fields whose "source of truth" is set to ERP are overwritten or deleted by integration events. A warning message is displayed when you save changes that may be overwritten or deleted by integration events.
  • If the value of the parameter System.Messaging.IgnoreSourceOfTruth is true, then all data fields are overwritten or deleted by integration events, regardless of the "source of truth" setting for each data field. A warning message is displayed when you save changes that may be overwritten or deleted by integration events.

If the adapter source is not set to ManuallyMaintained and you do not want your changes to be overwritten or deleted the next time you run an integration event, then you must update the external system to match the changes you made in your application's Administrator user interface. You can search the database audit log to list actions performed on objects with data fields whose source of truth is an external system. You can use the list to help you update the corresponding data on the external system. In this way, the next time you run an integration event to reload this data, your changes to these objects will not be overwritten or deleted.
