Your Ariba Buyer configuration team initially sets up and assigns permissions, using Ariba Buyer Administrator. The global permission External is assigned to users who are not part of the buying organization, such as suppliers. The global permission Internal is for users in the buying organization. You can view your user profile to see the permissions assigned to you, and to request additional permissions or to remove existing permissions. The request must be approved before your permissions can be changed. For information on setting up permissions in Ariba Buyer Administrator, see the Ariba Administrator Customization Guide. For information on setting up roles and permissions, see the Ariba Buyer Configuration Guide.

Ariba Buyer uses permissions to authorize individual users or roles, such as Professional Buyer, to perform various tasks and actions in Ariba Buyer. For example, only users assigned the Supplier Manager permission are authorized to add new suppliers to Ariba Buyer. Other permissions are used to identify users who need to receive email notification messages about specific events, such as when an order transmission fails. Permissions are also used to control user access to menus, commands, and tree views in Ariba Buyer Administrator. Ariba Buyer provides the following types of permissions. The permissions available at your company depend on how Ariba Buyer has been configured.
